Global Standardization and Quality Control Mandates

To facilitate international trust and trade, 2026 marks the enforcement of the most stringent quality control standards in TCM history.

  • The 2024-2026 Action Plan for Standardization: This initiative has successfully formulated 180 domestic and 30 international standards for TCM supplies. It focuses on the "cradle-to-grave" traceability of herbs, from Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) in cultivation to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in processing.

  • Special Provisions for Production (Effective March 2026): New regulations from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) mandate rigorous testing for heavy metals and pesticides. It also encourages the "homogenized processing" of materials to ensure that herbal extracts maintain a consistent potency across all batches.

  • Digital Traceability (QR & IoT): Every standardized TCM product in 2026 features a QR code linked to an IoT-monitored blockchain. Consumers can scan the product to see the soil quality data of the farm where the herb was grown and the precise chemical profile (fingerprint analysis) of the final formulation.
